The AACP Board has released an implementation plan, covering its activities over the next three years.
In May 2009, the AACP Board approved a forward 3 year plan to map out the key areas of development for the Association to support the requirements of its Members.
This established an excellent reference base, but to manage effectively the various activities and processes that would deliver these aspirations it was necessary to have a specific “action” plan to ensure all of the right things were being addressed and that energies and resources were being expended to best effect.
To encapsulate this, all the key objectives of the development plan have been analysed in 4 broad areas of achievement that can be identified and remembered —as
STAR
We believe this represents the core of members’ interests and where the work of the Association will be of most value.
A more detailed breakdown of the planned business development plan can be found in the Members’ section of the web site.
AACP offers Student Membership to those on Foundation Courses.
Those undertaking AACP approved Foundation Acupuncture Courses may join AACP as student members. Membership will give access to the members' area of the website, including the online research databases and will provide blood donor certificates. To join, please fill in the Student membership form.

The book is due to be published in April and is available at 25% discount from Amazon.
There has been some concern about the risks to pregnant physiotherapists who undertake Acupuncture foundation courses, in which the receipt of a significant amount of needling is an integral part of the tuition.
The AACP Board referred the matter to the CSP Professional Practice Committee for a definitive ruling, which is as follows:-
An opportunity has arisen to join the AACP Board of Directors –and the chance to influence the future direction of the Association and of the use of Acupuncture itself.
The role can be demanding, but only as demanding as you allow it.
Typically there are no more than 4 or 5 Board meetings a year, some of which may take place in Regional settings, with each Director usually assuming oversight on selected areas of the Association’s work.
If you would like to put yourself forward, or have a more detailed chat about the position please contact Ian Brooke our CEO, on 01733 390006 or by E-mail.
AACP has some money available to fund attendance at conferences and meetings that promote Acupuncture.

There appears to be some confusion among some Physiotherapists about the requirements for Practice Licensing when practising Acupuncture.
England & Wales
All private Physiotherapists who practise Acupuncture in England or Wales are required to register with their Local Authority. Please click HERE for the latest guidance.
Scotland. Members in Scotland will be pleased that negotiations about licensing with the Scottish Health Executive conducted by a joint AACP & CSP team have been successful and HPC registered Physiotherapists no longer need to be licensed to practise Acupuncture. The Statutory Instrument changing the Scottish Law may be seen HERE.
One of the important aspects of the new Order is that, in addition to exempting registered health professionals, it contains specific entitlement to a refund for any practitioner who has already paid for a licence and is subsequently exempted under the new Order.
Although Physiotherapy services are normally exempt from VAT, other services such as Acupuncture that is outside the accepted scope of Physiotherapy practice, or the provision of training courses are not exempt.

Non-Practising membership is a temporary category designed to allow Physiotherapists who are unable to practise for a period of time to retain their membership, but at a reduced rate of subscription. Non-practising membership may only be held for a maximum of 12 months, after which full membership must be renewed.
Retired membership is offered to those Physiotherapists who have retired completely from the profession, but who wish to maintain their contact with AACP.
Student, non-Practising and Retired members have full access to the AACP website, receive member discounts on publications, courses & conferences, but may not vote at the Annual General Meeting of AACP. Full details of these affiliate categories of membership will be found HERE.

Physiotherapists are advised to check carefully that any course they select is taught by an AACP recognised tutor.
