The course is designed to introduce acupuncture to physiotherapist as a modality for the treatment of common musculoskeletal conditions, both acute and chronic. Precautions and contra-indications to treatment with acupuncture will be discussed fully and adhered to ensuring that acupuncture is only given according to Health and Safety regulations and within the scope of your professional practice.  It will introduce the principles and philosophies underlying Traditional Chinese Medicine as well as the current scientific theories underpinning acupuncture and treatment parameters.

On completion of the course the delegate should be able to:

  • Demonstrate safe and effective needling techniques.
  • Discuss the cautions and contra-indications for the use of acupuncture.
  • Discuss and evaluate the current underpinning theories of acupuncture and evidence to support parameters of treatment.
  • Explore the basic concept of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) approach to acupuncture.
  • Discuss the meridian pathways and demonstrate certain points along the pathways as well as a selection of extra points.
  • Formulate and critically evaluate a treatment plan for a patient.
  • Know when the integration of acupuncture with or without other physiotherapeutic techniques is appropriate and be able to convey this information to other health professionals and patients clearly and concisely.

Fee: £512 for AACP members and £640 for non-members
