Join the AACP

The AACP is the professional body representing the practice of Western research-based acupuncture in physiotherapy in the UK.

 

Formed in 1984 and as the largest Professional Network of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists, we are a member-led organisation with over 6000 members.

The AACP has a member-elected governing board and is managed by a team of enthusiastic staff in Peterborough.

Membership of the AACP will;

 

view more I am a physiotherapist keen to learn acupuncture. Can I join?

If you have the following, you can attend an AACP Foundation Course:

  • Have HCPC physiotherapy registration
  • Have CSP membership
  • Be able to practise acupuncture in a clinical setting between the course parts
  • Give the tutor informed consent to receive repetitive needling (with particular regard to being or trying to become pregnant).
  • Be able to treat three separate patients in a safe and legal environment for their case studies. Failure to do so may affect your professional HCPC registration. (see AACP website for safety guidelines)
  • Attend all 6 days of the course

 

You will also be asked if you are able to give consent to receive repetitive needling (delivered by fellow course participants and the tutor).

  • Two three-day training sessions separated by six weeks OR
  • Two consecutive weekends training sessions followed by a further weekend training session six weeks later
  • Small training groups with a maximum of 15 participants
  • Hands-on experience through supervised practical workshops, lectures and discussion
  • Informative and comprehensive course workbooks and guide
  • Tuition from an accredited AACP tutor, with experience in acupuncture and physiotherapy

view more I am a physiotherapist trained in acupuncture techniques. Can I join?

For full AACP membership, you will need to:

  • Be HCPC and CSP registered
  • Complete 10 hours of acupuncture CPD every two years
  • To be practicing acupuncture regularly, at least once a week
  • Hold the AACP Accredited Foundation Course qualification, OR if you have any other acupuncture education, we may ask you to attend an AACP Admissions Process or a brief update course. Please contact the office for more info via sec@aacp.uk.com or 01733 390007 #1

Trainee Membership

Trainee membership is automatic and free of charge whilst undergoing an AACP-approved Foundation Acupuncture Course. After successful completion you will become an Accredited Member and only one year after the start of your Course you will start paying a subscription fee. At both instances we shall contact you.

Accredited Membership

Accredited membership of the AACP is obtained once the Foundation Course has been successfully completed. The AACP renewal subscription of £80 is payable annually and may be paid by direct debit or card. Accredited members have access to the full range of member benefits. Accredited Non-Practicing Membership

Temporary non-practising membership is available for members who don't practise for a limited period, for example as a result of maternity leave. This status does expire after one year, after which full accredited membership will have to be re-instated or membership has to cease. The only benefits that non-practicing members do not have access to is the PLI top-up and any product related discounts.

Temporarily non-practising Members pay a reduced annual fee of £25.

Retired Membership

Retired membership applies to those that are no longer practicing acupuncture regularly, however would like to keep informed of developments within the world of acupuncture. Retired members will still recieve the bi-annual journal 'Acupuncture in Physiotherapy™', monthly E-Newsletters and access to the members area of the website. Retired members do not have access to is the PLI top-up and any product related discounts.

Retired Members pay a reduced annual fee of £25.
