Training Videos - The Evidence Behind Treating Peripheral Neuropathy and the PN Campaign

Presented by: Mathew Bauer Duration: 40 minutes

Peripheral neuropathy is a common and poorly managed condition impacting diabetics, chemotherapy patients, those with HIV/AIDS and millions more for unknown reasons (idiopathic). A strong body of evidence suggests that acupuncture can not only treat the pain associated with this condition but can spark regeneration of the nerve damage causing this pain, as well as the numbness, burning, tingling, unsteadiness of gait, and loss of sensory input this condition causes. This talk will review the evidence on acupuncture’s ability to improve the nerve damage seen in peripheral neuropathy and the points most frequently used in successful research.  Advice on point selection, treatment dosage, techniques for needle stimulation and patient management will also be given. A brief review of the campaign to raise awareness that acupuncture should be seen as a front-line, first choice treatment for peripheral neuropathy will also be offered.
