AACP Annual General Meeting – Tuesday 14th May 2024 – 09:00hrs

Dear Member

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the eighteenth Annual General Meeting of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists Limited will be transacted on Tuesday 14th May 2024 at 09:00hrs by virtual conferencing.

Firstly, we would like to thank each and every one of our members for their continued patience whilst we have been working hard behind the scenes to source top-up insurance for thoracic acupuncture to replace what the CSP are removing from their current PLI on July 1st, 2024. We are pleased to share that we have successfully secured the required top-up cover with James Hallam insurers at a very reasonable cost, which is HCPC compliant and will enable all AACP members to continue treating the thoracic region as they previously have done. Once the final preparations have been completed, we will email all members to advise of the next steps, however, please rest assured the transition will be fluid and managed by our dedicated team. We trust this brings peace of mind to our members, as we are acutely aware of the abrupt and unforeseen implementation of the PLI changes.

We have been able to secure the top-up cover at a very competitive rate due to the acknowledgment of our exceptional training standards and impeccable safety track record; we persist in advocating for the establishment of minimum training standards to safeguard both professionals and the broader community. We believe the top-up cover we are able to offer from 1st July 2024 is unparalleled, given the substantial value of both the added insurance and the array of membership benefits we offer. We acknowledge that a number of stakeholders have opted for alternative options for their cover; however, we encourage those exploring alternative options to seek clarity on their coverage, the associated costs, and the claims process, especially concerning potential increases in premiums if pneumothorax claims continue to rise due to insufficient or inadequate training. We also advise it would be prudent to verify any such policy is HCPC compliant, and to routinely monitor changes to existing policies.

As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance our membership offerings and to maintain our unblemished safety record, we are pleased to share that we will be offering all members the opportunity to undertake complimentary CPD training in relation to needling the thoracic region. It’s anticipated the training sessions will be accessible at multiple locations so our members can readily access them with minimal inconvenience.

We hope this reflects our commitment to provide value and dedication, and to strengthen and protect our members expertise and proficiency. We appreciate your continued trust in us whilst we navigate these changes together.
